When the servant of the man of God rose early in the morning and went out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was round about the city. And the servant said, ‘Alas, my master! What shall we do?’ He said, ‘Fear not, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.’ Then Elisha prayed, and said, ‘O Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes that he may see.’ So the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw; and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

WORSHIP NOTES - Sunday, July 23, 2010

Last Sunday our group of “World Changers” shared what God had done while they were in Huntington, West Virginia, ministering the love of Christ through practical expressions of love as they met human needs. As is almost always the case, those who went to be a blessing were themselves powerfully blessed. The theme of World Changers this year was “Unhindered.” Each night, as our students and adults worshiped together with World Changers from other churches, they were encouraged to forsake the things which were holding them back from serving God passionately and effectively. The Holy Spirit moved powerfully in their midst and five of our young people entered into salvation as they gave their lives to Jesus as Lord and Savior! Others determined to serve him more faithfully. Many had an experience of the presence of God in a way they had never experienced before. At least one had his spiritual eyes opened to see angels present, which was a totally new experience for him. Praise God! As I listened to the testimonies concerning these things last Sunday I started thinking about the wide variety of things in our lives we allow to hinder us from experiencing all there is of God, his presence, and his kingdom. I think it is fair to say the biggest hindrance to walking closely with the Lord in the great adventure he has called us to is fear. The contrast between Elisha and his young servant is striking. They were, simultaneously, in exactly the same circumstances in one sense, yet in diametrically opposite circumstances in another. The difference was that one was close enough to God to see the “unseen” and to be at peace even in the face of what looked like impossible odds, while the other was anxious and fretful because he allowed the opposition and challenges he saw with his physical eyes to paralyze him with fear. As we move forward with our Comprehensive Church Expansion Plan, we need to pray to have our eyes opened. God and his heavenly host are on our side. The victory is already assured.
