Serving New Generation
Mars Hill is a ministry to the homeless and less fortunate in downtown Fredericksburg. Mars Hill was founded by John and Lonnie Reid as a part of their New Generation Church. Mars Hill provides a hot meal and a church service. For many of these, this is their only church. New Generation Homeless Ministry also provides clothing, other basic necessities and specific financial needs, as they are able. Local Churches partner with Mars Hill on a monthly basis to provide and serve hot meals every Sunday. Mars Hill also collects and distributes clothing and other items, such as blankets, sleeping bags, coats, etc., as they are donated. The most important thing we do is show the love of Jesus to people, many of whom would not attend a typical church service, and would probably never hear or see the ministry and Gospel of Jesus Christ in any other way.

The Homeless Shelter
The Brisben Center is a safe, secure, and supportive place, where men, women, children, and families without housing are provided shelter, a caring staff, a shower, a bed and meals, 24 hours a day/365 days a year —at no cost to residents. The Brisben Center maintains full-time living quarters for 80 people: 20 for single women, 28 for single men, and 32 in eight family units, including children. The average length of stay is 40-60 days. The shelter stays full or nearly full, serving those from across the Greater Fredericksburg region who have been displaced from their homes.
Richland has been serving meals at the Brisben Center for over eleven years. We have Life Groups that sponsor either breakfast or dinner about five times a year. We purchase, prepare, and serve meals to the residents and spend time with them.
Jesus had great compassion for all people, especially the poor and disadvantaged, those rejected by society. We count it a great privilege to serve at the Brisben Center, not only practically by providing meals, but also simply by engaging with the residents, loving them and listening to their stories.

Annual Outreach Events at Richland
Easter Egg Hunt
Our Annual Easter Egg Hunt, which has always been one of our major outreach events to the community each year, has been put on hold since COVID. Currently, it is open to congregants and their guests Easter Sunday. It is slowly making it's way back where we will invite our community to come out on a Saturday, enjoy free games, candy, ... and, be immersed into a loving culture, where the love of the Savior is evident among His people. Families are still invited to join us for our Sunrise Service and our Easter Sunday Service, as we celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord.
Harvest Festival
We love our Hartwood Community! But since COVID, one of our two major community outreaches, our Annual Harvest Festival, has been put on hold. Not only does our Harvest Festival offer a great opportunity for families to have fun in a family-friendly, safe, and loving environment, it also gives us a chance to practically get to know and serve our local community, so please keep us in prayer as we consider bringing this event back. Our desire is that families would experience the love and presence of our Lord Jesus Christ, expressed through us, as His people.
Vacation Bible School
Jesus loves children and longs for them to know Him. This is our greatest desire as we worked alongside Berea Baptist Church this year. This Years VBS was held at Berea Baptist. With the help of leaders and volunteers from both Richland Baptist and Berea Baptist, your children had the experience of a life time. The week of June 12-16 was our VBS week. If you have never been to Richland during VBS week, you will not want to miss it next year. We go all out to prepare to love on the children and to share the life-transforming gospel of Jesus Christ with them. If interested, please contact Sharlene at Richland at (540) 752-9352.
